Brian Greene (1963-) is an American theoretical physicist and string theorist. He has been a professor at Columbia University since 1996. Here Brian Greene is interviewed by Anna Maria Tremonti.

The multiverse (or meta-universe, metaverse) is the hypothetical set of multiple possible universes (incl. the historical universe we now experience) that together comprise everything that exists and can exist: the entirety of space, time, matter, and energy as well as the physical laws and constants that describe them.
The term was coined in 1895 by the American philosopher and psychologist William James. The various universes within the multiverse are sometimes called parallel universes.
The many-worlds interpretation is an interpretation of quantum mechanics that asserts the objective reality of the universal wavefunction, but denies the actuality of wavefunction collapse. Many-worlds implies that all possible alternative histories and futures are real, each representing an actual ”world” (or ”universe”). It is also referred to as MWI, the relative state formulation, the Everett interpretation, the theory of the universal wavefunction, many-universes interpretation, or just many-worlds.

Vad roligt att höra en forskare som är mer intresserad av att hitta nya, spännande teorier som eventuellt kan bekräftas, än att försöka bevara sin akademiska prestige genom att hela tiden bevisa att han har ”rätt”! Att våga tänka att ”ha fel är lärorikt”!
Det var en forskare på 70 – 80-talet som försökte bevisa samma tanke: Att för varje val vi gjort, lever de andra, ratade, valen sina egna liv i parallella universum. Matematiken hade inte kommit så långt att möjligheten kunde verifieras så han hamnade tyvärr på mentalsjukhus. Hans kolleger tyckte att han var ute och reste med sina teorier. Han gläder sig säkert nu i sin himmel, skulle jag tro! Jag har glömt vad han heter, hans son är musiker.
