”What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?” asks Regina Dugan, then director of DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
In this talk she describes some of the extraordinary projects, a robotic hummingbird, a prosthetic arm controlled by thought, and, well, the internet, that her agency has created by not worrying that they might fail.
TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, formed to disseminate ”ideas worth spreading.” TED was founded in 1984 in Monterey, California.TED’s early emphasis was largely technology and design, consistent with a Silicon Valley center of gravity. The events are now held in Long Beach and Palm Springs in the U.S. and in Europe and Asia, offering live streaming of the talks.
