Tensions in the Middle East reached a new peak as reports emerged of heightened U.S. military activity and preparations for a potential Israeli strike on Iran.

CBS News sources suggest that Israel is finalising plans for a major operation against Iran, possibly targeting its nuclear facilities or military infrastructure. The report aligns with unconfirmed social media claims of Israeli air drills and intercepted communications indicating intensified strike planning.

This comes as President Donald Trump, during a recent Middle East tour, has reportedly discouraged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from taking unilateral action, although the two leaders’ discussions remain shrouded in secrecy.

The involvement of Saudi Arabia, a key U.S. ally, adds another layer of complexity. There is a speculation that Saudi Arabia may be assisting in preparations for an attack on Iran, raising concerns about retaliatory strikes on Saudi oil infrastructure.

U.S. Air Force Deployment Sparks Speculation

On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Conflict Radar posted an image showing a KC-135T Stratotanker taking off from Saudi Arabia, with its transponder switched off immediately after departure.

The sudden deactivation of its transponder has fueled speculation about the nature of the mission. The KC-135T, a variant designed for in-flight refuelling and capable of supporting long-range missions, is often associated with strategic military movements in the region.

The post highlighted additional U.S. military aircraft activity across Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and nearby regions, suggesting a coordinated buildup. This aligns with reports from other X users, such as Iran Observer, who noted increased U.S. and Israeli military presence in the Persian Gulf.

Regional tensions and Iranian response

The military movements come amid escalating rhetoric from Iran and its allies. Iran Observer posted on X that Iranian officials have warned of a ”decisive response” to any aggression, with unverified claims of missile tests conducted in the Strait of Hormuz.

Another post from the same account earlier on June 11 suggested that Iran has placed its armed forces on high alert, citing intercepted communications indicating preparations for a potential conflict.

These developments echo a Newsweek report from earlier this week, where a Houthi source warned that an attack on Iran would ”drag the entire region into the abyss of war.”

The U.S. appears to be bolstering its presence in response. Defense Civil, another X user, reported that the USS Carl Vinson, an aircraft carrier previously operating in the Pacific, has been ordered to steam toward the Middle East, potentially joining another carrier already in the region.

This move, attributed to recent orders from U.S. military leadership, signals a significant escalation in American naval power projection.

Global implications

Analysts warn that any military action could further destabilise the region, with potential impacts on global oil markets and security. The U.S. has increased its troop presence in the CENTCOM area from 34,000 to 43,000, according to recent reports, while evacuating nonessential personnel from Iraq, Bahrain, and Kuwait—moves interpreted as precautionary measures ahead of a possible conflict.

As of 08:56 AM CEST on June 12, 2025, the situation remains fluid. With military assets mobilising and rhetoric intensifying, the prospect of a broader conflict looms large over the Middle East.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
