The British freelance journalist and former soldier Mike Jones, known in media circles as Foreign Agent Intel, recently announced that he is in the process of enlisting in the Russian army.
Mike Jones:
”I’m excited in that deep, calm way you get when you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.”
Jones, who lives in St Petersburg, says he served as a soldier in the British Army two decades ago and that he recently passed the medical examinations required for admission.
Under British law, including the Foreign Enlistment Act of 1870 and anti-terrorism legislation, it is illegal for Britons to fight for the forces of a foreign power, and Jones could face prosecution should he return to the United Kingdom in the future.
”I’m done with Moscow’s media snakes and endless reposts. Simple soldiering again, bashing Nazis like I dreamed as a kid reading Biggles. The universe has a way of putting you on the right path. Победа будет за нами*. See you from the SVO zone soon.”
* Победа будет за нами: ”Victory shall be ours” in Russian.
