Gerillaskepticism på Wikipedia – Hur faktaposter förvanskas för att folkbilda ”rätt”

Den amerikanska skeptikern Susan Gerbic beskriver under ett JREF-föredrag i Kalifornien att hennes team sedan maj 2011 styr ett stort antal faktaposter på 17 språk på Wikipedia med hjälp av över 90 Wikipediaredaktörer (skeptiker).

Denna taktik tillämpas sedan många år på svenska Wikipedia där svenska skeptiker associerade till föreningarna Vetenskap och Folkbildning och Humanisterna försöker kontrollera en rad faktaposter om personer och begrepp.

”Activist Susan Gerbic teaches you how to edit and expand Wikipedia in a way that challenges unsupported claims, spreads truthful information about pseudoscience and the paranormal, and helps the public have a better understanding of science and critical thinking.”

Kritiker till metoden förklarar:

”With more scientists coming out in the open about the validity of the paranormal and the evidence for the afterlife, the tiny minority of closed-minded skeptics find that they are losing their audience. So claiming to represent ”science” and ”critical thinking” they have organized themselves to bombard the media, as they did with Ted Talks. One group call themselves ”guerilla skeptics”. They target wikipedia pages about mediums, the afterlife and the paranormal and ’edit’ them to fit their agenda.Tom Butler flagged their activities in relation to EVP a couple of years ago.”
