A group of international journalists, including one from NewsVoice, recently visited Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The trip aimed to provide a first-hand look at Xinjiang’s economic, cultural, and social status.

Chen Qingrui for Global Times writes that the Chinese representatives were offering the journalists the possibility of finding out for themselves if their experiences of Xinjiang would be different from the general Western media reports on the province.

The group, comprising 18 journalists from 16 countries, toured various parts of Xinjiang, including Yining City, Kuqa County, Xayar County, and Xinjiang’s capital, Urumqi.

Xinjiang’s strategic location, close to 13 major trading countries, offers logistical advantages, as noted by Luo Haitian, general manager of GAC Motor’s Xinjiang branch. This has facilitated the export of vehicles to Central Asia and plans for further overseas expansion.

Sayed Ahmed Redha from Bahrain’s Alayam newspaper mentioned the growing popularity of Chinese vehicles in Bahrain due to their modern technology and competitiveness.

As noted by Chen Qingrui, Xinjiang’s foreign trade reached $18.99 billion from January to April 2024, a 49.5 percent increase from the previous year.

The journalists also visited Khorgos Port and the Urumqi International Land Port, learning about the trade operations and plans to boost transportation capacity through the increased China-Europe Railway Express services.

The tour included visits to clean energy projects, such as the photovoltaic industrial park in Xayar County. Mustafina Almira, chief editor of Angrenskaya Pravda, praised the integrated clean energy and ecological management initiatives and expressed interest in Uzbekistan’s collaboration with China in photovoltaic development.

Overall, the journalists were impressed by Xinjiang’s advancements in economic development, clean energy, and the potential for international cooperation, Global Times writes.

NewsVoice will cover the visit to Xinjiang in a series of coming articles.
