The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) – featuring a record-breaking roster of international businesses and delegates from 152 nations – launches amid China’s surging import growth, marking a pivotal moment in global commerce.

Premier Li Qiang leads an impressive assembly of world leaders at Shanghai’s landmark trade gathering, where six prime ministers join nearly 300 global corporate giants in what’s become China’s premier statement of economic openness. The event, running November 5-10, showcases everything from Finnish green tech to Indonesian palm oil.

”The CIIE serves to showcase China’s major opening-up measures and confidence,” declares Commerce Assistant Minister Tang Wenhong, as fresh data reveals China’s imports hit 13.71 trillion yuan in 2024’s first three quarters – a 4.1% surge that signals robust market appetite.

With sustainability taking center stage through dedicated forums and pavilions, this year’s expo reflects China’s pivot towards green growth. As one delegate notes, it’s becoming ”a good opportunity to strengthen trade ties” in an increasingly interconnected global marketplace.

”More than 400 new products, new technologies and new services are set to be unveiled during the expo, which experts believe is a strong indication of global companies’ confidence in the Chinese market and their commitment to further development in China despite a sluggish global economic recovery.” – China Daily
