Brazil Announces Approval of 121 New Science and Technology Institutes

Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation has unveiled preliminary results for its latest public call to establish National Institutes of Science and Technology.

A total of 121 projects have been approved, with an estimated funding allocation of approximately US$253 million at the current exchange rate.

The programme is designed to foster networks of research centres, uniting top scientific institutions and laboratories to tackle Brazil’s most pressing national and global challenges.

The official website of Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation reports that with the addition of these new projects, the total number of operational National Institutes of Science and Technology in the country will rise to 221.

The new institutes will address 20 strategic priority areas, including artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, biodiversity sustainability, renewable energy transitions, and climate change.
