The Addis Ababa Culture, Arts, and Tourism Bureau said the active development of new and modernisation of existing tourism facilities has enabled the Ethiopian capital to successfully host numerous international and continental events. This is reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the bureau, the growing number of events held in Addis Ababa indicates the city’s significant progress in developing the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism sector.

Following recent reforms, tourism has become one of the country’s five key economic pillars and is receiving increased attention. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, national programmes are being implemented to develop tourism destinations.

In Addis Ababa, in addition to creating new tourist destinations, efforts are being made to upgrade and improve existing attractions. The improvement of sites such as Friendship Square, Entoto, and Unity Park should increase the number of tourists.

In the last six months, the city has hosted more than 50 international and continental events, signalling a turning point in the growth of MICE tourism in Addis Ababa.
