In Patrick Lancaster’s latest video report from the frontline in Kursk, an Ukrainian kamikaze drone nearly took his life during a combat operation. Two days later, a news correspondent for Russia’s Channel One, Anna Prokofieva, died in the Belgorod Region.
Patrick Lancaster:
”This was one of the closest calls I’ve had while reporting from the battlefield—and that’s saying something after years of covering warzones.”
”The footage captures the heart-pounding moment a Ukrainian FPV (First-Person View) drone locked onto our position as I rode alongside Russian Akhmat special forces during a civilian evacuation mission, with five elderly civilians inside the truck.
As soon as we spotted the drone overhead, chaos erupted—shouts, professional military actions and the undeniable sound of death stalking from above. But in the end, we were saved by the actions of the Russian soldiers from Akhmat Special Forces.”
Russian journalist killed in Ukrainian strike

Anna Prokofieva, war correspondent for Russia’s Channel One, was killed on Wednesday while on assignment in Belgorod Region, which borders Ukraine. Channel One confirmed her death and said that cameraman Dmitry Volkov had also been injured during the incident, RT writes.
Prokofieva was working in the village of Demidovka. The 35-year-old journalist was killed either by a drone strike or a fatal shrapnel wound, possibly from a drone strike.
RT writes that earlier this week, three members of news crews were killed in Ukrainian attacks in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) and in Kursk Region.
