In Shenzhen, a young startup company is challenging the outer limits of robotics. Founded in 2023, EngineAi has captured the world’s audience with its humanoid Kung Fu robot, T800.
EngineAi is led by Zhao Tongyang, a 35-year-old robotics expert. The project benefits from expertise gained through projects such as Xpeng’s humanoid robot Iron.

Tongyang’s team has achieved something that many experts thought would take decades: a robot that can perform complex acrobatic feats, including martial arts moves such as jump kicks.
Chinese engineers are now leading the development of machines that can navigate and move with human-like agility.
Experts caution that while the T800’s acrobatics are impressive, they do not fully capture the essence of human dexterity. The true measure of these robots’ capabilities lies in their ability to master everyday tasks that require fine motor skills and precision. Currently, no humanoid robot, including the T800, can perform such actions with the same skill as a human.
