Sahra Wagenknecht, leader of Germany’s newly formed Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), has issued a stark warning to NATO and the West regarding the escalating conflict with Russia.
Sahra Wagenknecht, a prominent figure in German politics, expressed deep concern over the increasing risk of nuclear war, citing NATO’s involvement in Ukraine as a dangerous provocation. She emphasized that Russia, as the world’s largest nuclear power, should not be pushed to its limits, warning that continued escalation could lead to catastrophic consequences.
In an interview with the Funke media group, Wagenknecht criticized NATO’s strategy, which she believes is testing Russia’s boundaries, calling it “incredibly dangerous.” She urged the West to reconsider its actions, highlighting that crossing more red lines would increase the risk of a full-scale war in Europe.
Her comments come in light of Russia’s recent revision of its nuclear doctrine, further heightening fears of potential nuclear conflict.
”If NATO becomes a party to the conflict in Ukraine, it will get to a point where Russia will carry out a strike on military facilities in NATO territory,” Wagenknecht said. ”After that, the conflict will soon escalate into a nuclear confrontation because this is the only field where Russia is equal to NATO. This is why it is so crazy dangerous that we are allowing ourselves to be dragged deeper into the conflict”, Newsweek writes.
Wagenknecht also advocated for renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine, suggesting that peace talks should occur in a neutral country like Turkey, which has previously been mediating. She criticized the U.S. and German-led meetings at NATO bases, arguing that such venues are not conducive to meaningful peace discussions.
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov echoed similar concerns, reminding the international community of the heightened dangers of a direct nuclear confrontation. He compared the current tensions to the Cuban Missile Crisis and stressed that any mistake in handling the situation could lead to a global catastrophe.
Wagenknecht’s statements have sparked debate in Germany, particularly regarding the country’s role in supporting NATO’s actions, and have raised questions about the path forward in resolving the Ukraine conflict without resorting to nuclear warfare.
