The Chinese Embassy in Sweden hosted a reception to mark the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Nearly 100 attendees visited the event. NewsVoice reports.
The event was attended by defence attachés from various countries, including Poland, South Africa, India, Sweden, Brazil, and the United States, as well as prominent figures from civil society.
The event aimed to create a sense of shared purpose. Most of the time was devoted to allowing visitors to mingle and get acquainted with one another in a friendly atmosphere.
The Chinese Ambassador to Sweden, Mr. Cui Aimin, delivered a speech about the PLA’s role under the Communist Party’s leadership in founding the People’s Republic of China and advancing national development.

The Chinese army also contributes to maintaining stability, ensuring security, and providing disaster relief. The Swedish military, including the Home Guard, plays a significant role in disaster relief efforts both domestically and internationally, similar to the Chinese Army.
They provide support to civilian authorities during crises, such as forest fires, floods, and pandemics, and are also involved in international humanitarian aid efforts.
Cui Aimin mentioned the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression during the First and Second Sino-Japanese Wars (1894-1895 and 1937-1945).
Aimin also emphasised China’s commitment to President Xi Jinping’s vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity. Similarly, China’s army is committed to global peacekeeping and is open to international collaboration.
The Chinese Defence Attaché Yuan Lin expressed enthusiasm for deepening cooperation with counterparts, such as the Swedish military.
The event featured a photo exhibition and a promotional video, The Guardians, which showcased the PLA’s legacy. Since 1990, China has deployed over 50,000 peacekeepers for UN operations in different places around the world, according to the video.
