The Trump administration has authorised the deployment of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., following a series of escalating tensions in the capital.

President Donald Trump announced the decision during a press conference at the White House, citing the need to maintain public safety and order amid recent unrest.

”Today, I am directing the National Guard to support our law enforcement in Washington, D.C., to ensure the safety of our citizens,” Trump stated, flanked by key administration officials. The move comes after reports of protests and sporadic violence, prompting concerns from local authorities.

The deployment was confirmed earlier today, with Guard units beginning to mobilise in key areas of the city.

The administration has not specified the duration of the deployment or the exact number of troops involved. Still, officials have assured the public that the action is temporary and aimed at stabilising the situation.
