Researchers speculate the Himalayan creature called Yeti could be a giant ape. They compare recent observations and folklore with an extinct species called Gigantopithecus that could reach 10 feet (3 meters) high.

There is however no evidence that the hypothesis has any scientific base. First a dead or alive specimen of the Yeti need to be found or captured. Until then the Yeti will remain a mystery relying only on very weak anecdotal evidence.

The Yeti or Abominable Snowman is an alleged ape-like cryptid said to inhabit the Himalayan region of Nepal, and Tibet. It is believed to be much taller than an average human.
