A building housing hens caught fire outside Perstorp in Sweden on Saturday afternoon, May 16. No one is reported to have been injured, but around 48,000 hens perished in the blaze, according to Swedish state television, SVT.

“The poultry house has been completely destroyed, and the fire was already raging when we arrived. However, we have saved the adjacent buildings. We are now trying to contain the fire so that it does not spread to the forest,” says Jocke Johansson, incident commander.
Fourteen fire engines from four stations were at the scene. The fire service expects to remain there for several hours to come. The cause of the fire is unclear.
