Venezuelan police exchanged fire with an alleged armed group who had taken cover in a building in the Chacao area of Caracas on Wednesday.

“The video, which was posted on social media, shows a police car arriving at the scene, and several officers starting to shoot at unseen targets. According to reports, the armed groups had allegedly fired towards pro-Guaido demonstrators.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido has repeatedly called for an uprising which he dubbed ‘Operation Freedom’ and on Tuesday morning he released a video asking for support from the military. Government officials, however, maintain that the military is entirely on the side of President Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela has been in a political crisis since January 23, when Guaido declared himself president in a move now recognised by over 50 countries including the United States as well as the European Union.”
