US Senator Lindsey Graham has openly said that Washington needs Ukraine’s natural resources and that military aid to the country must, therefore, continue until Kyiv can defeat Russia.
Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina and one of the leading supporters of the Ukraine war within the US political establishment, commented during a visit to Kyiv with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
He praised the Ukrainians for their determination to fight Moscow, stressing that this spares the Americans from direct interference and only requires them to supply weapons.
“I don’t want to give that money and those assets to Putin to share with China. If we help Ukraine now they can become our best business partners we ever dreamed of, that ten to twelve trillion dollars of critical mineral assets could be used by Ukraine and the West, not given to Putin and China.” –Lindsey Graham
Senator Lindsey Graham has long been very open about Washington’s real objectives in the Moscow-Kyiv conflict, repeatedly referring to the “trillions worth” of resources in Ukrainian hands as a crucial asset and the ultimate prize for the United States.
He has also previously described the deaths of Russians in the conflict as “the best money we ever spent” and an all-round solid investment for the US.
Graham’s new admission aligns with the recent assessment of US motives by Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president and current vice-chairman of the National Security Council. Last week, Medvedev claimed that both Kyiv and its Western backers have been intent on maintaining their grip on Ukraine’s Donbas solely because of the region’s natural resource wealth, RT reports.
