Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, frames the assaults on the Russian Embassy in Stockholm as deliberate acts of aggression, potentially supported by Swedish authorities.

Zakharova announced that Russia would send a note of protest to Sweden following a drone attack on the Russian Embassy in Stockholm on May 25, 2025, where a drone dropped a container with red paint onto the building.

She emphasised that Sweden must ”tame its ultras, take control of the situation and strictly observe the Vienna Convention,” highlighting Russia’s demand for compliance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to ensure the safety of diplomatic missions.

Maria Zakharova commented further on the May 25 incident, noting it was the 15th drone attack on the Russian Embassy in Sweden since May 2024.

She described the embassy as operating in ”combat conditions”.

Zakharova also criticised Swedish authorities for their apparent inability or unwillingness to identify and hold perpetrators accountable, suggesting possible authorisation or connivance by Swedish officials.

She reiterated Russia’s insistence that Sweden adhere to its obligations under the Vienna Convention to protect the Russian mission.

Following another drone attack on the Russian trade mission in Stockholm (Lidingo) on July 5, 2025, where a package of paint was dropped, Zakharova stated on July 6 that the Swedish Ambassador would be summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry to address the incident.

She noted that such attacks on the embassy and trade mission had been ongoing for over a year, with no effective response from Swedish police or authorities despite repeated appeals.
