Spain and Italy have dispatched navy vessels to protect the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza. Also, the Emergency NGO ship is also sailing along the fleet and the Omar Al-Mukhtar ship, which carries a mobile medical clinic, encircled by Israeli drones, tags along.
Amnesty UK writes:
”Their mission is simple: deliver food, medicine and other essentials to Palestinians in occupied Gaza, who are still trapped under Israel’s unlawful blockade.”

Amnesty International, posts onX:
”States have a responsibility to ensure the safe passage of the flotilla, especially as they have repeatedly failed to get Israel to comply with its most basic obligations to ensure Palestinians in Gaza have adequate access to food, water, medicine and other supplies indispensable to their survival. They must step up pressure on Israel to ensure safe passage for the flotilla and to lift the blockade once for all.”

Speaking from New York, Spains Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Spain “condemns the genocide” in Gaza and demanded Israel uphold international law and allow Spanish citizens to sail safely in the Mediterranean. Spain is now dispatching the frigate P-46 Furor to support the flotilla.
Sánchez writes:
”The Spanish Government demands compliance with international law and respect for its citizens’ right to navigate the Mediterranean safely.”
Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto strongly condemned the drone attacks on the flotilla. Crosetto said he had redirected the multipurpose frigate Virginio Fasan to head towards the flotilla to offer assistance to Italian citizens on board, and Israel had been informed.
Crosetto:
”The Israeli Military Attaché in Italy, our Ambassador and the Military Attaché in Tel Aviv, and the Crisis Unit of the Farnesina have been informed of this decision.”
Comment by UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan:
”There must be an independent, impartial and thorough investigation into the reported attacks and harassment by drones and other objects against the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla. Such attacks must stop, and those responsible for violations must be held to account”.
Egypt and Turkey announced and began joint naval exercises called ”Friendship Sea” (or ”Bahr El Sadaka”) in the Eastern Mediterranean on September 22, 2025, scheduled to run through September 26.
This marks their first such drills in 13 years and involves warships, submarines, fighter jets, and other assets from both countries.
The flotilla’s presence in the Eastern Mediterranean overlaps directly with the ongoing exercises, and multiple reports and social media discussions have highlighted this coincidence as a potential layer of regional protection or deterrence.

The Israel Foreign Ministry has the last 24 hours slightly changed its rhetoric:
”We have another proposal for the Hamas-Sumud flotilla: if this is not about provocation and serving Hamas, you are welcome to unload any aid you might have at any port in a nearby country outside Israel, from which it can be transferred peacefully to Gaza. Israel will not allow vessels to enter an active combat zone and will not allow the breach of a lawful naval blockade. Is this about aid or about provocation?”
The activist Thiago Ávila reported from the flotilla 08:56 on the 25th of September, central European time:
”We are still here sailing to break the illegal Israeli siege of Gaza and create a humanitarian corridor for the governments and institutions to act”.
Global Sumud Flotilla writes:
”Hundreds of elected representatives from across the EU demand immediate protection for the Global Sumud Flotilla after last night’s attacks in European waters. The letter comes as Italian MPs force their Government to deploy a naval vessel to safeguard their nationals at sea. Together with parliamentarians across the continent, we now call on other states to follow with protective presence to ensure the safe passage of the fleet as it establishes a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.”
Yannis Varoufakis, former finance minister of Greece writes on Sep 24 sep, 2025:

”They are entering no war zone, no security zone. They are sailing in international waters, suffering criminal harassment akin to piracy, and heading for a site of genocide on a land that Israel is illegally occupying – and which the International Court of Justice, in June 2024, has ordered Israel to vacate.”
On September 23, 2025, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated during his address at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York that Indonesia is prepared to deploy 20,000 or more troops to Gaza as part of a UN-mandated multilateral peacekeeping force to help secure peace and implement a two-state solution.
Indonesia says it’s ready to deploy 20,000 boots on the ground in Gaza to stop the genocide.

Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar to the UN Assembly:
”We did not stop the Holocaust. We did not stop the genocide in Rwanda. We did not stop the genocide in Srebrenica. We must stop the genocide in Gaza. There are no excuses anymore. None.”
Finally, Chile’s president Boric told the UN Assembly that Israel’s genocide in Gaza is in the same category as the Holocaust and that he wants to see Netanyahu brought to justice in the international criminal courts.
In 2025, thousands of innocent people lost their lives simply on the grounds of being Palestinian. 80 years ago, the same thing happened. Millions lost their lives simply for being Jewish. I don’t want to see Netanyahu destroyed by a missile, side by side with his family. I want to see Netanyahu and those responsible for the genocide against the Palestinian people brought to the ICJ and other international courts.”
According to research by Grok AI, Israel’s bombing of Gaza from 2023 to September 2025 is equivalent to roughly 6-7 atomic bombs based on the most recent estimates. This represents one of the most intense bombardments in the history of any country or region.
