Swedish food chains are under cyber-attack. Shops are reporting on social media that hackers have taken control of their fridges and freezers across the country. They are reportedly out of service, and the goods are spoiled. Everything has to be thrown away.
Mats Olsson, store manager at food chain ICA on the island of Oland, says he arrived to a puddle of water on the floor and found the freezer at 55 degrees, according to SVT (Swedish State Television). Another ICA shop said the temperature was as high as 50 degrees.
“We are incredibly sorry and are working flat out to dispose of the goods and get everything up and running again”…
”Everything is ruined”, they write on their Facebook page.
Ica Baronen in Stockholm reports that the shop’s refrigeration contractor informed them of the incident at half past five on Monday morning.
Gustaf Nilsson, press officer at ICA head office, says that the affected shops are connected outside ICA’s central network. ICA is helping the shops manage the incident.
Six Coop shops, another food chain in Sweden, have also been affected. Refrigerators and freezers in dozens of food shops have been affected.
