The Summer Olympics of 2024 in Paris are over and, according to the calendar, Los Angeles will host the next Games in 2028. But is it really going to happen?

The handover of the Olympic flag during the closing ceremony was spectacular. Film star Tom Cruise rappelled down from the night sky and received it from American gymnastics gold medallist Simone Biles, then he drove off on a motorcycle.

But something seems to have gone wrong.

During Cruise’s 15-second descent, was he supposed to fly another flag strapped to his right lower leg, perhaps announcing the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles? Despite Cruise repeatedly pulling the release cord, the flag refused to unfold.

An omen?

Is the world heading towards a future where there will be no Summer Olympics in 2028?

Was the memento that the United States of America will no longer exist when the year arrives?

Maybe the flag hiccup meant nothing. It was just a random event in a chaotic universe where stuff just happens, carrying no meaning or significance at all.

The video clip below shows Tom Cruise’s doomed descent.

Here is the whole Tom Cruise segment from the closing ceremony.
