It is still unclear whether Ukraine will receive the green light to use Western long-range weapons for deep strikes against targets in Russia. Putins’ warning to NATO has been heard.

After a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that they had a broad discussion regarding the deep strikes strategy on Ukraine. Still, the conversation did not focus on ”a specific capability.”

Before the meeting, there were reports that Starmer planned to pressure Biden to support his proposal allowing Storm Shadow cruise missiles, which the U.K. has sent to Kyiv, to be used for deep strikes inside Russian territory.

However, according to the Labour leader, the issue will likely be further discussed next week at the UN General Assembly in New York with a ”broader group of individuals.”

Biden has been cautious about approving deep strikes inside Russia. However, reports that Russia is receiving new supplies of drones and missiles from Iran have reignited the debate over expanding Ukraine’s ability to use long-range missiles. Western countries also receiving new supplies of drones and missiles is regarded as a not related issue.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that giving Ukraine the go-ahead to strike deeper into Russia with advanced weapons would mean war with NATO.
