Ukraine to purchase the fighter jet Gripen from Sweden. An agreement was signed. The fighter can start and take off on a short runway, like a road.
The Wallenberg-owned company SAAB has signed a contract to supply 16 Gripen E fighter aircraft to Ukraine, with an order value of approximately 2,4 billion USD.
Totally, at least 30 Gripen aircraft are to be supplied to Ukraine as part of NATO’s proxy war against Russia.
In May 2026, Ukraine signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the procurement following President Zelenskyy’s visit to Sweden. At that time, Ukraine wished to purchase up to 150 fighter aircraft.
The Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, has stated that Sweden will donate 16 JAS Gripen C/D aircraft to Ukraine once the purchase has been finalised.
Deliveries will take place between 2029 and 2030.
